Shanghai 2040

Recently the ‘Shanghai 2040’ Master plan was released, which charts the major changes to Shanghai (and ultimately to China) in the coming years.

Departing from an industrial based economy, to a people-centric society, Shanghai will focus more on green space and becoming a global city, which will blend business and science with ecology and social welfare.

Reducing the population to a mere 25 million is one of the tasks, as in promoting people to move to node cities for a more cost effective and healthier life style. The ‘Shanghai Metropolitan Circle’ will stretch out into neighboring Jiangsu province and Zhejiang province.

The process has already begun and currently focuses on illegal construction and businesses, which have been closed en masse.
